What Causes Tooth Discoloration? Does Teeth Whitening Work?

Tooth discoloration is often part of the natural aging process, but it can become worse due to tobacco use and the consumption of wine, tea, or soda. If you have yellow, stained, or discolored teeth holding you back from smiling confidently, we offer in-office and take-home teeth whitening solutions. While teeth whitening may not produce the same results for everyone, many of our patients have seen noticeably brighter teeth up to eight shades whiter after just one visit!

Could I Buy a Tooth Whitening Kit and Whiten My Teeth Myself?

Yes, there are many over-the-counter teeth whitening products available at your nearest pharmacy or grocery store. However, professional teeth whitening at your dentist office is often more effective and less damaging to your teeth and sensitive oral soft tissues. Dr. Hassan uses professional-grade whitening gels not found in over-the-counter kits that are designed specifically to minimize tooth sensitivity after treatment. You could try to whiten your teeth yourself, but why would you when you can schedule a convenient appointment at our dentist office?

I Have Crooked Teeth. What Are My Cosmetic Dental Options?

Are you embarrassed by crooked teeth? Manassas Smiles offers cosmetic dental options such as Invisalign® to help patients of all ages achieve a straighter, healthier smile. Other treatment options offered by our dentist office include dental veneers and dental bonding. Forgoing treatment for crooked teeth isn’t in your best interest, as patients with crooked teeth often experience chronic headaches, poor oral hygiene, discomfort while chewing, and a host of other oral health issues.

Can I Straighten My Teeth with Invisalign® as an Adult?

Absolutely! Invisalign® aligners are recommended for Manassas Smiles patients of all ages, including teens and adults. Invisalign® clear braces help correct uneven or crowded teeth, overbites, underbites, gaps between teeth, and other cosmetic issues without the stigma of traditional braces. If you’re an adult who’s self-conscious about wearing braces, Invisalign® aligners provide a more discreet option.

I Have Missing Teeth. What Are My Cosmetic Dental Options?

Missing teeth are no longer considered just a cosmetic concern. Missing teeth can affect your bite alignment, which can also impact your facial and jaw structure and overall oral health. Even losing one tooth can create havoc inside your mouth, as the remainder of your teeth shift to try to compensate for the missing tooth. If you’re missing teeth, Manassas Smiles can replace them using full or partial dentures, dental implants, veneers, or bridges. Talk to our dentist today to see which is best for you.

What Are Porcelain Veneers? Who Makes a Good Candidate?

Porcelain veneers are created using ultra-thin, high-quality dental porcelain customized to match the color of your natural teeth. They adhere to your teeth for a snug fit and can last many years with adequate oral hygiene and visits to our dentist for check-ups. Most patients make successful candidates for dental veneers, but keep in mind they do require a substantial amount of tooth enamel removal from the teeth being treated.

What Is Tooth Bonding? Is It a Permanent Cosmetic Option?

If you have tooth discoloration or minor tooth damage, tooth bonding makes an affordable alternative to other more costly and invasive cosmetic procedures. Tooth bonding works well for many of our patients, but keep in mind it’s a semi-permanent alternative to dental veneers. Many patients who consider tooth bonding are younger and not fully committed to the idea of veneers just yet. Tooth bonding is reversible, and dental veneers can be applied easily over treated teeth later.

Do Most Cosmetic Dental Procedures Require Sedation?

Not all cosmetic dental procedures require the patient to be sedated, but our dental clinic does offer sedation dentistry for patients who need it. The level and type of sedation recommended will vary according to the procedure, your health, and medical history. Our office provides both IV sedation and oral conscious sedation in the form of a pill you swallow before the procedure.

Can Children Have Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures Done?

Many of our cosmetic procedures are not suitable for children, as children are usually still growing and developing. For example, trying to place dental implants in a child’s mouth could cause severe issues when bone growth causes everything to shift out of place again. However, tooth bonding may be a suitable treatment for children with severe tooth discoloration caused by medications or other factors. Orthodontics are usually suitable for children wishing to straighten their smile or to correct an overbite or underbite. However, we don’t suggest Invisalign® treatment for children unless they have a full set of permanent teeth. Professional teeth whitening also isn’t generally recommended for children, especially those who may still have their baby teeth.

Do You Offer Financing for Cosmetic Dentistry Concerns?

Our dental clinic understands there are many competing interests for your hard-earned money, and cosmetic dental procedures don’t always make the top of your list. While we do accept cash, checks, major credit cards, and dental insurance, we also strive to provide financing options as well. We can also make arrangements for phased treatment planning to accommodate patients with a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Contact us today for more details!
