Root Canal What to Expect
The procedure is relatively simple. It can typically be performed in just one visit to our Centreville, VA dentist office. Root canals are performed using a local anesthetic for the majority of patients. Dr. Hassan offers sedation dentistry options for patients who suffer from dental anxiety.
First, the dentist makes a small hole to access the tooth pulp that is infected. The infected tissue and damaged nerve will be removed and the root canal will be disinfected. Once the tooth is free of decay, the tooth will be thoroughly cleaned and then filled with a biocompatible resin.
Finally, Dr. Hassan will cover the tooth with a dental crown to add strength and protect it from future damage. A dental crown can be custom designed to match the color of adjacent. The dental crown will fit over the root canal tooth to preserve the tooth.
