Invisalign Manassas
Invisalign is the leader in the invisible braces industry. The clear aligners were developed about 20 years ago and have been evolving ever since. Unlike metal bracket and wire systems, these removable alignment trays straighten your teeth by gently nudging them into the desired position.
Benefits and Advantages
Compared to conventional orthodontics, Invisalign allows for:
- An “invisible” teeth straightening experience
- Freedom to eat all of your favorite foods (just remove the trays)
- Easier ways to brush and floss your teeth
- Shorter, fewer trips to the office
- Ideal for adults of all ages
- A custom fit with no irritating metal appliances
Am I Too Old to Straighten My Teeth?
Absolutely not! Investing in a straighter smile can help your teeth look their best. And when your teeth are straighter, they’re less prone to tooth decay, gum disease, and irregular wear patterns. Correcting your bite alignment — at any age — can boost your oral health in the future!
Invisible Braces for Teens
Even though Invisalign was designed with adults in mind, it’s great for teens too! As long as your teen is committed to wearing their aligners as prescribed and keeping up with them (like during school lunches) they may be a great candidate for invisible braces systems.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign uses 3D computerized planning software to digitally map out your tooth movement before the treatment ever starts. Once your aligners are ready, wear them for 22+ hours a day (remove them during meals) and change them out every two weeks. You’ll progress to the next set and feel a little pressure as your teeth adjust.
Since Invisalign doesn’t require “adjustments” like metal braces do, you progress your tooth movement at home. Our Invisalign patients don’t need as many — or as long of — appointments during their treatment. Invisalign is great for people with busy schedules!
Eating with Invisalign
You need to make sure that you don’t eat with your trays in. Try to brush your teeth after your meal. If that’s not an option, rinse your mouth out well before you put the trays back in. Avoid drinking anything other than water while you’re wearing your aligners (as the trays can trap acids, stain, or natural sugars against your teeth.)
Invisalign Maintenance at Home
Our Invisalign patients get to enjoy great oral hygiene since there are no special tools to keep on hand. Simply remove your trays, brush your teeth, floss, clean your aligners, then put them back in. You won’t have to worry about plaque sticking to your brackets or causing dreaded “white circles” when you’ve completed your treatment.
As for your aligners, clean them routinely with lukewarm water and soap. Try to avoid abrasive toothpastes. Use a soft toothbrush to clean inside of the aligners then rinse them clean before putting them back over your teeth. If you notice any buildup, you can try soaking them in an effervescent denture cleansing solution (like the tabs in water) and then brush away the loosened debris.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
The average treatment typically takes 12-18 months, but it depends on the individual. If you’re an Invisalign Express patient who is only straightening front teeth, you might complete your orthodontic therapy within 3-6 months. And if you have complex bite needs, the process could take upwards to 24 months.
Here’s the great thing about Invisalign: before you start treatment, we can get a digital replica of your tooth movement and see exactly how many sets of trays it will take to get there. Since you wear every set of trays for two weeks, we’ll be able to know approximately how long it will take to straighten your teeth.
Once your treatment is complete, we’ll fit you with a set of retainers that look just like the Invisalign trays themselves.
